SUFFOLK CAPTAIN'S REPORT
The annual competition between
the leagues took place at the Needham Market Community Centre
on Saturday 3rd February.
The Heritage League was represented
by six rinks from clubs competing in their league. The clubs
involved were Knodishall, Theberton, Snape, Wenhaston, Kelsale
and Leiston St Margarets. The Suffolk leagues were represented
by the winners and runners up of the two first divisions and
the winners of the two second divisions. These were Brockley,
Barking and Hitcham from the West divisions. With Tuddenham,
Claydon and Bramford from the East.
The format used for this competition
is the same as used for County matches, with each rink playing
three games, over five sessions.
The Heritage League teams came
determined to repeat their success of last year, and the Suffolk
Leagues representatives were equally keen to stamp out any thought
of this happening.
The first session got under
way at 11 o'clock and it soon became obvious that the play was
very even and that no side was going to run away with things.
The session ended with 5 points to 3 in favour of Heritage with
the shots scored being 36 to 35.
The second session was even
closer with 4 points for each side.
In the third session only two
games were played and Suffolk Leagues managed to win one and
draw the second, gaining 3 points to 1 over the Heritage players.
The next two sessions went
to the Suffolk Leagues, by 5 points to 3 in both cases, with
the shots being 30 to 28 and 36 to 24 respectively.
Throughout the day the bowling
was of a high standard and with very close games, all played
in the best of spirits. Just as Carpet Bowls should be and I
am sure everyone is looking forward to our next encounter. |
