» 2009 STUTTON PAIRS

This was the 17th year that Stutton Carpet Bowls Club ran their charity pairs competition at the Royal Hospital School Holbrook and each year this small club of only about 20 members pick a different charity to support and this year it was the turn of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

This competition attracts 128 pairs from all over Suffolk and Essex, playing from 9.30 am until 6.30 pm on sixteen carpets in the gymnasium firstly in mini leagues and then to a knock out final. Money is raised from entry fees, a small draw and selling teas.

This year we were able to raise £1386 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, plus a further £116 by selling merchandise.

This small club over the years has to date raised nearly £21,000.

The winners of the competition were Shirley Watkins & Roy Longsborough of Barking and the runners up Greg & Glenyce King of High Woods Colchester.

The semi-finalists were Jean & Derick Monk from Walton and Sally & Jim Goodrich from Claydon.

» 2009 THURSTON SUMMER FOURS CHARITY TOURNAMENT
Thurston Carpet Bowls Club would like to thank all those who attended their Summer Fours Charity Competition on June 21st. An extremely successful day raising a total of £1300 for the local Parkinson’s Disease Society.

The Competition Trophy was won by Great Barton beating Nayland B in a nail biting final, eventually decided by an extra end. Proud recipients of much coveted Booby Prize were Nacton B who really struggled to avoid scoring more than their 4 shots over the 3 games.

We would like to thank Adanac Valve Specialities Ltd for sponsoring the trophies again this time. Also to the many individuals, businesses and organisations for their kind donations of both cash and prizes.

A great day was had by all and this year's event was won by Nayland A.
