Summer League Finals 2015
On Wednesday 2 September, the
SCBA held the Summer League finals night at Needham Market Community
Centre.
The five league winners and
competing teams were Chelmondiston, Barking, Knodishall, Sproughton
and Bildeston.
In the first session, each
team played two rinks (fours) games.
It was Barking who made the
best start in their game against Chelmondiston. Scoring heavily
in the middle ends put the game beyond doubt and the final score
was 26-4. Knodishall werent far behind though, again dominating
the middle ends in their game against Sproughton, finishing up
comfortable 17-3 winners.
Barking and Knodishall faced
each other in what was the closest game of the session. Barking
kept edging ahead but Knodishall always drew level and then a
three on the penultimate end was the clincher, Knodishall holding
on for a crucial 9-8 win.
In the two other games, Bildeston
eased to an excellent 14-2 win over Sproughton, and Chelmondiston
beat the other Bildeston rink by 15-9.
At halftime, Knodishall were
looking good with two wins but Barking, Bildeston and Chelmondiston
all had a win each, so it was all to play for in the second session.
The second session saw each
team play two triples games, against the teams they had not faced
in the rinks games.
Knodishall knew that two wins
would mean they couldnt be caught. They got off to a great
start against Chelmondiston, 5-0 and 9-1 up, which was then reduced
to 9-5. However from there they didnt look back and raced
away to a 17-6 win.
Barking kept up the pressure
on Knodishall by controlling their game against Bildeston. An
early lead was extended in the middle ends and concluded with
a 13-7 win.
The crucial game was now Knodishall
against Bildeston and after a tight low scoring start, Knodishall
slowly took control to secure an 8-2 lead. That advantage was
reduced to 10-6 with an end to play, but it was enough and Knodishall
held on for a 10-8 win.
In the other games Sproughton
bounced back well from disappointing rinks games to record two
wins, but only just. It was a see-saw game against Barking and
they held their nerve on the final ends to win 8-7. Then against
Chelmondiston they led from the start, it was level going into
the final end but they scored a single shot for a 9-8 win.
Congratulations to Knodishall,
unbeaten on the night and 2015 Summer League champions.
