FINALS NIGHT
With
the country, still in the process of recovering from the effects
of the pandemic, rather than trying to run a full Winter League
season, the SCBA decided to launch a regionalised league for
2021/22, to cut down on both the number of games, and travel.
In the end
there were 21 teams competing in 4 groups, with the top two teams
from each group qualifying for Finals Night. Unfortunately Needham
Market were unable to attend, which left 7 teams to play on the
night.
With time only
allowing for 4 games for each team, it would not be possible
for all teams to play all the other teams.
First Half
As might have been expected, Barking won both their games, beating
Bentley and Burstall. Bentley took a surprise win over Brockley,
who won thier other game, a one shot victory over Claydon. Burstall
had one win, over Bentley. Chelmondiston were the other team
to take 2 wins, over Withersfield and Claydon, while Claydon
lost both games, as did Withersfield.
Second Half
In the end the results were fairly evenly spread, no one won
all their games, but neither did anyone lose all their games.
Bentley weren't
able to improve on their one win in the first half, finishing
on 2 points, in 7th place.
Claydon did
improve on their first half games, although they were only able
to win one, but it was a big win, and could be said to have determined
the final outcome of the night. They finished 6th.
Brockley were
perhaps the unluckiest team on the night, they won 2 and lost
2, and the games they lost were only by one shot and three shots
respectively (although the two games they did win were only by
one shot each). They ended up 5th, on 4 points.
Burstall picked
up one win in each half, including one over Claydon, and with
one shot more than Brockley, came home in 4th place.
Having lost
both games in the first half, Withersfield won both in the second,
picking up 3 shots more than Burstall to finish 3rd.
Barking won
3 games, but suffered one big loss, which left them on 6 points
and 44 shots, which was only good enough for the runner-up spot.
Chelmondiston
came close to taking all four of their games, they won three,
and only lost the other by a single shot, but their 6 points
and 47 shots were just enough to take the overall win. |
