SIX COUNTIES
CHARITY TEAMBOWL 2023 |
This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Cambridgeshire at the
new Littleport Leisure Centre on Sunday, 1st October, after an
extended absence owing the knock-on effects of the Pandemic.
Session 1
Suffolk began the day by picking up an overall win against Norfolk
of 18-6 to lead the way. Essex were only a couple of points behind,
with 16-8 against Bedfordshire, while, as might be expected,
it was close between Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, with Cambs
just getting the better of their opposition 13-11.
Session 2
Essex had an even better session against Norfolk, winning 17-7.
It was the same score for Cambridgeshire over Bedfordshire, while
Suffolk beat Hertfordshire 15-9.
Overall, Essex
and Suffolk were tied on 33 points, with Cambridgeshire only
slightly off the pace, on 30 points.
Session 3
Norfolk had their best session of the day, sharing the points
equally with Hertfordshire. Suffolk took a 19-5 win over Bedfordshire,
but Cambridgeshire had the best of all, beating Essex 20-4.
That left it
very much as a two horse race, with Suffolk on 52 points, just
ahead of Cambridgeshire just behind on 50. Essex were still third,
but all the way back on 37 points, and Hertfordshire closing
them, on 32. Norfolk, on 25 points, had pulled a bit further
ahead of Bedfordshire, who were on 20.
Session 4
Cambridgeshire might have expected to do better against Norfolk,
they won, but only just, 13-11. Essex continued to falter, losing
5-19 to Suffolk, while Hertfordshire beat Bedfordshire 16-8.
Suffolk had extended
their lead, now moving on to 70 points, with Cambridgeshire 7
behind on 63, and Hertfordshire now third with 48, having passed
Essex, who now slipped to 4th, on 43 points. Norfolk still held
5th, ahead of Bedfordshire.
The final session
would see Suffolk playing Cambridgeshire, which mean that the
overall win was still very much up for grabs.
Final Session
As things played out, the final game of the day would be played
out between the pairs of teams who occupied the top two, middle
two, and bottom two positions.
Bedfordshire
could have pulled themselves up from 6th place, where they had
spent most, but not all, of the day, with a decent win over Norfolk,
but it was Norfolk who took a 16-8 win, which exaggerated the
difference between the two teams which had been close all day.
Bedfordshire finished on 36 points, Norfolk on 52 points.
Hertfordshire
had a 5 point advantage over Essex, and while Essex did take
more points, it was only by 13 to 11, which left Essex in 4th,
on 56 points, and Herts in 3rd, on 59 points.
For the top two,
it was a question of whether Cambridgeshire could overhaul their
7 point deficit to Suffolk, and as the Singles played out, it
seemed not, as Suffolk won 3 out of 4 games, to extend their
lead to 11 points, with only 16 left to play for. But it was
the opposite in the Pairs, as Cambridgeshire took 3 convincing
wins, losing just once, bringing the gap back down to 7 points
as the final round of games began. Cambridgeshire would need
to win all 4 games, nothing else would do. But things did not
go their way, the games were generally, and in one case very,
close, but Suffolk came out on top in all of them.
The final standings
saw Cambridgeshire on 71 points, and Suffolk on 86 points, with
those final 4 games exaggerating the difference between the two
teams, and making Suffolks victory look relatively easy,
which it was not.
This was Suffolks
8th consecutive victory in this event.

CHARITY TEAMBOWL 2019 |
This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Essex at the new Littleport
Leisure Centre on Sunday, 22nd September.
Unfortunately
Hertfordshire were unable to raise a full team, but nevertheless
played on with a squad of just 18, foregoing two of their triples
and giving themselves a considerable handicap.
Round 1
It was a fairly even start as Essex and Norfolk picked up 14
points each against Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire respectively,
while Suffolk just got the better of Cambridgeshire 13-11.
Round 2
Essex had by far the best session, picking up an 18 points against
Bedfordshire while Suffolk and Hertfordhire (despite that handicap)
both picked up 13 points against Norfolk and Cambridgeshire respectively.
Essex, on 32 points, led Suffolk
by 6 and Norfolk by 7 points.
Round 3
A combination of Suffolk gaining 18 points against Hertfordhshire
and Essex only getting 9 against Norfolk saw a change at the
top, while Cambridgeshire only just got the better of Bedfordshire
13-11.
Suffolk now led the way on 44,
Essex were on 41 and Norfolk had 40 points.
Round 4
Cambridgeshire had their best session of the day so far with
15 points over Essex, it was the same for Norfolk with 16 points
against Herfordshire and Suffolk came out on top of Bedfordshire
18-6.
Suffolk extended their lead at
the top slightly and were now on 62 points, 6 ahead of Norfolk
with Essex and Cambridgeshire both on 50.
Round 5
Going into the final round everything was still up for grabs
but what we ended up with that 3 very clear cut results, two
of the disastrous for title contenders.
Hertfordshire, despite their
handicap picked up 17 of the 24 points on offer against Bedfordshire.
Cambridgeshire took 16 points off Norfolk and Suffolk had their
best session of the day by dropping only 5 points against Essex.
That catapulted Cambridgeshire
up to second place, dropping Norfolk down to third but leaving
Suffolk to take the win for the seventh consecutive year.

CHARITY TEAMBOWL 2018 |
This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Norfolk at the new Littleport
Leisure Centre on Sunday, 24th September.
Round 1
Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire were all off to strong
starts. Suffolk beat Essex 18-6, Cambridgeshire beat Norfolk
16-8 and Herts got the best of Bedfordshire 14-10.
Round 2
The two leaders played one another in the second session, knowing
that a good win for either side was going to put them in a strong
position come the end of the day. And it was a strong win for
Suffolk who took 17 of the 24 available points. Essex had a strong
result against Hertfordshire, taking 16 points and Norfolk and
Bedfordshire split the points evenly in their game.
That left Suffolk on 35 points,
12 ahead of the pack who were led by Cambridgeshire, with the
other 5 counties were covered by just 3 points.
Round 3
Suffolk further extended their lead with a win over Norfolk (19-5),
Cambridgeshire lost a little ground despite beating Herts 16-8,
while Essex put themselves firmly into the top three by beating
Bedfordshire 16-8.
Suffolk were now on 54, Cambridgeshire
39 and Essex were one point further back with a gap having opened
over the rest of the field.
Round 4
Suffolk had another good win, this time over Hertfordshire (20-4),
Cambridgeshire beat Bedfordshire (17-7) and Norfolk just edged
out Essex 13-11.
That pushed Suffolk's lead out
to 18 points with Cambridgeshire now 7 points clear of 3rd placed
Essex. Meanwhile Norfolk, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire were
separated by just 4 points.
Round 5
It only took the Singles round to secure Suffolk the title, although
they only took 4 points off Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire could
only win one game against Essex, that left Suffolk 20 points
ahead with Cambs only able to get a maximum of 16 in their remaining
games.
Having spent the whole day tussling
with one another Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Bedfordshire finally
finished 4th, 5th and 6th respectively, seperated by just 8 points.
With Cambridgeshire and Essex
playing one another in the final round of games, the runner-up
spot was still up for grabs, but although Essex got the best
of the Singles they lost out in the Pairs and the two teams ended
up with 12 points each from theri encounter.
But finishing top, by a margin
of 26 points, were Suffolk, who took the title for the 6th successive
year and made it 9 times out of the last 10.

CHARITY TEAMBOWL 2017 |
This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Cambridgeshire at the
new Littleport Leisure Centre on Sunday, 24th September.
Round 1
Suffolk were into the lead immediately, taking 21 points out
of the 24 on offer against Bedfordshire. It was a good session
too for Essex taking 17 points in their games against Cambridgeshire.
And closest of all Hertfordshire just came out on top against
Norfolk 14-10.
Round 2
The two leading teams met one another and it was close but Suffolk
just came out on top, taking 13 points to Essex's 11. It was
a better round for Bedfordshire but they still only picked up
8 points against Hertfordshire's 16. And it was a much better
session for Cambridgeshire who took 14 points against Norfolk
who again finished with 10.
Overall Suffolk still led the
way, on 34 points, with Hertfordshire having closed the gap to
just 4. Two points further back were Essex.
Round 3
Suffolk continued to edge ahead by beating Cambridgeshire 18
points to 6 while Hertfordshire took 14 points off Essex and
Norfolk beat Bedfordshire 13-11.
Suffolk were now 8 points ahead
of Herts on 52 points, while Essex were 6 points further back
on 38, Norfolk had 33, Cambridgeshire were on 27 and Bedfordshire
22.
Round 4
It was another good round for Suffolk, beating Norfolk 16-8,
Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire took and equal share of the
points as did Essex and Bedfordshire who were getting better
with each session.
Suffolk 's lead was now out to
12 points, they were on 68, Herts 56, Essex 50, Norfolk, 41,
Cambridgeshire 39 and Bedfordshire 34.
With Suffolk and Hertfordshire
playing one another in the final session they were now the only
teams who could win the event.
Round 5
The Singles saw Suffolk win 3 out of 4 games which took their
lead out to 16 points overall and with only 16 points to play
for in what remained of the day it was just a matter of scoring
a single point in the Pairs games. As it was they shared the
points which meant that they had won with the Triples still to
be played.
Heading into the final Triples
games Bedfordshire, although 6th placed were in with a chance
of moving off the bottom as they were playing their closest rivals,
Cambridgeshire. But they lost all four games and were left at
the bottom of the fianl standings, albeit with the highest points
tally they have achieved for several years.
And those points earned by Cambridgeshire
managed to push them up to fourth, just sneaking ahead of Norfolk
on shots.
And it was a similar story for
Essex who, despite only managing to get an equal share of the
points against Norfolk were able to take advantage of a disappointing
finish from Hertfordshire to grab the runner-up spot, again on
shots.

CHARITY TEAMBOWL 2016 |
This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Bedfordshire at Littleport
Leisure Centre on Sunday, 25th September.
Round 1
Norfolk were off to a strong start, winning all 4 singles games
against Essex and going on to take 17 points overall, giving
them the early lead.
However they
were only one point ahead of both Suffolk and Cambridgeshire.
Suffolk were steady against Hertfordshire with solid performances
throughout the disciplines to earn 16 points. Meanwhile Bedfordshire
had started well against Cambridgeshire, winning 3 out of 4 Singles
games, but could muster only 2 more points from the Pairs and
Triples.
Round 2
With 19 points against Bedfordshire it was Suffolk that now moved
to the top. It was close between Norfolk and Hertfordshire, with
Norfok just edging it 13-11, while Cambridgeshire finished 14-10
winners over Essex.
Suffolk were
now on 35 points, 5 ahead of both Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.
Those top three now had a big gap over the rest of the teams,
with Hertfordshire on 19 points, Essex on 17 and Bedfordshire
on 13.
Round 3
With Norfolk and Cambridgeshire playing one another, from which
Norfolk took a 14-10 win, Suffolk were able to extend their lead
a little further with a 16-8 win over Essex. Hertfordshire's
15-9 win over Bedfordshire meant that they consolidated their
4th place and edged a little closer to Cambridgeshire.
Suffolk, on 51
points now held a 7 point advantage over Norfolk while Cambridgeshire
were a further 4 points off the lead.
Round 4
Now it was Suffolk and Cambridgeshire playing one another, giving
Norfolk a chance to cut into the lead. And they did s as they
took 17 points off Bedfordshire but that only brought them 2
points closer as Suffolk beat Cambridgeshire 15-9. Essex had
their best session of the day so far, but Hertfordshire still
finished 13-11 ahead.
Suffolk had moved
on to 66 points with Norfolk on 61. Meanwhile Cambridgeshire,
on 49, were now only 2 points clear of Hertfordshire.
Round 5
The final session of the day began with 5 points separating Suffolk
and Norfolk in 1st and 2nd, 2 points between Cambridgeshire and
Herts in 3rd and 4th and 7 points between Essex and Beds in 5th
& 6th. And by a quirk of fate that was exactly how the teams
would face off in their final games, meaning that there was an
opportunity for each position to change.
Essex had slightly
the better start against Bedfordshire, but Beds fought back in
the Triples which meant that in the end the points were shared
evenly. A 12-12 draw was the best result of the day for both
teams.
Hertfordshire's
fight to snatch 3rd place began well, taking 3 of the Singles
games to move them ahead of Cambridgeshire and they held on to
it, just getting the better of the Pairs games and sharing the
points in the Triples. A 15-9 win overall equaled their best
of the day and gave them third place.
Suffolk went
into their final games knowing that they would need 10 points
to retain the title, while Norfolk's target was 15.
Norfolk would
need a strong start in the Singles to put pressure on their opposition,
but it was Suffolk would came out on top, taking 3 out of 4 games.
That left them with just 4 more points to get. In the end the
Pairs yielded them 5 points, followed by 6 more in the Triples,
giving them a 17-7 win overall to secure the title for the fourth
consecutive season.
The day's profits
of £574 went to this year's chosen charity, Kidney

SIX COUNTIES
CHARITY TEAMBOWL 2015 |
This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Hertfordshire at Littleport
Leisure Centre on Sunday, 27th September.
Round 1
It was Essex who made the best start, however the 16 points they
took against Bedfordshire only put them one point ahead of Cambridgeshire
and Suffolk who each scored 15 points, against Hertfordshire
and Norfolk respectively.
Round 2
Essex's lead did not last for long as they lost 18-6 to Norfolk.
And while Cambridgeshire beat Bedfordshire 16-8 it was Suffolk's
18-6 win over Herts that took them to the top of the standings,
by just 2 points.
Round 3
Another win for Suffolk as they took 20 points off Beds, mean
that they extended their lead to 9 points as a close fought game
saw Cambridgeshire only just come out on top against Essex 13-11.
That allowed Norfolk to come up to a joint second as they took
a strong 17-7 win over Herts.
Round 4
Hertfordshire's had their best session of the day as they beat
Bedfordshire 18-6 to lift them well clea rof their opposition
in the standings. Meanwhile Cambridgeshire beat Norfolk 15-9
to take themselves back into a clear second place. However another
good session for Suffolk, beating Essex 17-7, took them into
an 11 point lead, heading into the final session.
Round 5
For Bedfordshire the day ended much as it had begun, only able
to pick up 7 points from Norfolk, they finished in 6th place,
well adrift of the field.
Essex and Herts
went into the final session tied on points and fittingly shared
the points, with Essex edging 4th spot by just 26 shots.
Although they
had fallen a little behind Cambs, Norfolk were still in with
a chance of second place. They took 17 points off Beds, but just
fell short by a matter of 25 shots and had to settle for a very
respectable 3rd place.
The day ended
with the top two teams playing one another and while Cambridgeshire
could still overhaul Suffolk it was going to be a tall order.
Suffolk's 11 point advantage meant that they only needed 7 points
out of 24 to secure the win.
Six of the eight
points available in the Singles saw most of the job done after
which the Pairs completed the job as the points were shared,
while it was Cambridgeshire who had the best of the Triples,
taking 5 points.
That was enough
to secure second spot for Cambridgeshire, who finished just 25
shots ahead of Norfolk. However it was the win for Suffolk who
finished 13 points clear to take the title for the third year
in succession and making it 6 wins in the last 7 years.
The day's profits

Round 1
Bedfordshire were off to a good start, leading the way with a
17-7 win over Norfork. But Suffolk and Essex were just a point
behind with 16-8 wins over Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire respectively.
Round 2
Suffolk moved to the top, inflicting another 17-7 win over Norfolk.
Essex were up in to second, taking a 14-10 win over Bedfordshire
who now slipped to third, while Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire
shared the points in their match.
Round 3
Another strong result for Suffolk, winning 21-3 over Hertfordshire,
saw them move further ahead, but only slightly as Essex picked
up a 19-5 win over a still struggling Norfolk. Meanwhile Cambridgeshire
finally hit their stride with a 20-4 win over Bedfordshire to
move them up to third.
Round 4
A fading Befordshire were able to provide little resistance to
Suffolk as they were down 22-2, and with Essex only able to take
a narrow 13-11 win over Cambridgeshire the gap between first
as second had grown to 14 points. Meanwhile Norfolk had their
best round of the day so far as a 16-8 win over Hertfordshire
propelled them off the bottom of the standings.
Round 5
As is often the case, the final session saw the top two teams
playing one another. Suffolk and Essex were the only teams in
a position to take the win and although Suffolk held a lead of
14 points and were going to be difficult to beat, at least Essex
knew that the situation was not out of their control.
The singles saw
Essex get 2 points closer by taking 5 of the 8 points on offer,
but time was running out. They would need a good session of Pairs
to stand a chance. But although Suffolk continued to look nervy,
the session was shared with 4 points apeice and the title was
secured for Suffolk. The triples were also shared which meant
that Essex finished 13-11 winners overall and finished the day
having outscored all of their opponents.
Cambridgeshire
finished with a narrow 14-10 victory over Norfolk and Hertfordshire
beat Bedfordshire by the same score.

This year's Six
Counties Charity Teambowl was hosted by Essex at Littleport Leisure
Centre on Sunday, 29th September.
Bedfordshire
started their day well with a 14-10 win over perennial rivals
Hertfordshire, and held their own for much of the day, but the
day did not finish well for them and they ended up at the bottom
of the standings.
After finishing
the last 2 years in last place Hertfordshire showed an improvement
with a highly consistent performance across the day. Although
they did not take any overall wins, all of their losses were
narrow and they would have finished fourth but for a couple of
points.
Essex will no
doubt be disappointed with fourth, but after struggling against
Suffolk in the first session they had spent most of the day in
last place and will no doubt be relieved to have pulled themselves
back up, albeit someway off the top three.
Norfolk spent
much of the day in second place, taking overall wins over Essex,
Herts and Beds, but a heavy defeat to Suffolk put paid to hopes
of securing the runner-up spot and they ended up in thrid place.
While they only
went down 11-13 to Suffolk and they won all their other games,
Cambridgeshire will be ruing the fact that they did not take
more points off Essex, Herts and Norfolk. As it was they pulled
ahead of Norfolk towards the end of the day and finishing in
a clear second place.
Suffolk led from
the first session and for the most part edged away throughout
the day. Good wins over Essex, Norfolk and Beds meant that they
were never really challenged and they finished 13 points clear
at the top to regain the trophy.

Round 1

while Suffolk and Cambridgeshire each took 16 points against
Bedfordshire and Essex respectively.
Round 2
Norfolk slipped to second as they lost 16-8 to Cambridgeshire
who took over as the overall leaders. Essex beat Suffolk 14-10
while Hertfordshire beat Bedfordshire by the same score.
Round 3
Cambridgeshire maintained their lead as they drew 12-12 with
Suffolk, who now moved into second place. Meanwhile Bedfordshire
took a 15-9 win over Norfolk to life themselves up into third
and Hertfordshire beat Essex 14-10.
Round 4
Cambridgeshire took an emphatic 21-3 win over Hertfordshire to
take themselves 9 points clear at the top with just one round
of games to go. Suffolk were safely in second place following
an 18-6 win over Norfolk, while Essex beat Bedfordshire 15-9
to life themselves up to third overall.
Round 5
Top top two teams could do no better that 12-12 draws, Cambridgeshire
against Bedfordshire and Suffolk against Hertfordshire, while
Essex sealed third spot with a 16-8 win over Norfolk.
Cambridgeshire
came home as worthy winners by nine points, to end a three year
run of wins for Suffolk.
Overall the competition
was much closer than last year with a spread of just 33 points
between the top and bottom teams, compared with last year's massive
56 point spread, all of which seems to show that the counties
are much closer together than in recent years, something that

Round 1
Suffolk's 19-5 win over Hertfordshire saw them take the early
lead. Cambridgeshire held second place, taking 16 points from
Bedfordshire, while 3rd place was held by Norfolk with their
13-11 win over Essex.
Round 2
Norfolk moved up into second place with the day's most impressive
result, a 22-2 win over Hertfordshire. Cambridgeshire took another
16-6 win, this time over Essex, but slipped to third. However
Suffolk's 20-4 win over Bedfordshire kept them in the lead, albeit
by just 4 points.
Round 3
Suffolk took another 20 point haul, this time over Essex and
extended their overall lead to 11 points as Cambridgeshire took
16 points yet again, this time off Norfolk, who now slipped to
third spot. Meanwhile Hertfordshire won their encounter with
Bedfordshire 13-11.
Round 4
The top 2 teams played one another and shared the points. Suffolk
now lead with 71 points while Cambridgeshire stayed 2nd on 60
points. However Norfolk missed their chance to close in on the
leaders as they were able to take 13 points off Bedfordshire.
They were now on 56 points. Essex's 15-9 win over Hertfordshire
moved them on to 38 points, maintaining their 4th place. Bedofrdshire
were 5th on 34 points, while Hertfordshire stood 5 points further
back.
Round 5
With such a healthy lead Suffolk only needed to avoid any silly
mistakes to take the win. Cambridgeshire finished off their day
with a 19-5 win over Hertfordshire, but Suffolk matched that
total with their win over Norfolk to secure the title for the
third year in a row. Essex finished with their best result of
the day, winning 18-6 against Bedfordshire, all of which meant

in the Singles, Pairs and Triples, with each county putting up
4 teams in each discipline.
Round 1
The early leaders were Essex and Norfolk each of whom took 16
of the 24 points on offer from their respective opponents, Hertfordshire
and Bedfordshire. Just behind were reigning champions Cambridgeshire
who were also off to a strong start, taking a 14-10 victory over
perenial rivals Suffolk.
Round 2
Essex continued their strong start with a 19-5 win over Bedfordshire,
taking them onto 35 points, fully 8 points clear of Suffolk who
were now second, following a 17-7 victory over Norfolk. Meanwhile
Cambridgeshire were in third, just 1 point behing Suffolk, following
a very impressive showing from their opponents, Hertfordshire.
Round 3
The third
round of matches saw Essex stumble for the first time as the
were soundly beaten 16-8 by Norfolk. The loss saw them drop all
the way back to third place, albeit only 3 points off the lead
which was now in the hands of Suffolk, following their 19-5 win
over Hertfordshire. Meanwhile an 18-6 win for Cambridgeshire
over Befordshire had brought them up to second place, just 2
points behind Suffolk.
The top 3 teams
were now covered by a mere 3 points and following Norfolk's impressive
win, it meant that the top 4 teams were all within 7 points of
one another.
Round 4
The crucial match of the round was Cambridgeshire against Essex.
A big win for either team was going to put the victor in a very
strong overall position. And it all looked to be going Essex's
way as they first won 3 of the 4 Singles games and then 3 of
the 4 Pairs games, but Cambridgeshire made a remarkable come
back to win all 4 Triples games and tie the match 12-12.
However that
result gave the upper hand to Suffolk as they took on Bedfordshire
and won 18-6, while Norfolk edged home 13-11 in front of Hertfordshire.
Round 5
Heading into the final round of games Suffolk were leading on
64 points, 8 ahead of Cambridgeshire and 9 ahead of Essex. However,
with Suffolk and Essex playing one another it was possible that
their positions could turn around while Cambridgeshire could
still end up pipping both of them.
Bedfordshire
were going to require a big win over Hertfordshire to be able
to lift themselves off the bottom of the standings, but as it
was the match was a 12-12 draw. Bedfordshire finished 6th with
37 points, while Hertfordshire were 5th on 48 points.
Cambridgeshire's
chances rested on a big win against their final opponents Norfolk,
and going into the final games for the triples they were still
very much in with a chance, but they could only manage 3 points
from that final set of games and although they won the match
it was only by a score of 13-11. That result brought them up
to their final tally of 69 points, but that wouldn't be enough
to take the title and they would finish third while Norfolk were
4th on 63 points.
Meanwhile Essex
went into their game with Suffolk knowing that they would need
17 points to take overall victory. They took 4 points from the
Singles, followed by 6 points in the Pairs, leaving them needing
to get 7 of the 8 points on offer in the Triples. In the end
it was just too much to ask as Suffolk managed to get 3 points
which was enough to win the event, despite Essex winning that
final game 15-9.
As it was Essex
finished second on 70 points, 3 behind Suffolk's final total
of 73 points.
