Cockfield Invitation Charity Fours 2020
February 15th 2020

The Competition has been running since 1992 and once again we raised over £1000.00. This thanks to the hard work of club members and there partners, they all played their part with: setting up the hall, providing 100 lunches, baking cakes supplying trifles making teas, coffees etc throughout the day. All the club members helped make it a very successful day. Most of all thank you to all competitors, those who brought draw prizes. And special thanks to Stanningfield for supplying the flooring.

I must mention June Pettit who brings it all together, it is her baby. Well done June.

Unfortunely over the Christmas period Dot Smith sadly passed away after a short illness. Club members and Dot’s husband Dave agreed that funds raised should go to: St Nicholas Hospice as a thank you for the care and support the family received in her final days.

Maranda from the Hospice gave a short talk, her enthusiam and professionalism was evident and she highlighted, how important volunteers are without them and fund raising events such as today’s, the Hospice could not function.

Cockfield use a different format to most Bowls competitions, a match is decided on the numbers of ends a team wins and not by the number of shots. The 20 teams were put into four groups of five therefore each team gets four games. Bowling started at 9.30 and the qualifying rounds were completed by about 16.30. With the £1.00 in the bucket result, the raffle and last one standing Bingo taking place at about 15.30.

Four Groups with 5 teams in each Group. Winners going through to the Semi-Finals.

Most of all thank you to all competitors, those who brought draw prizes. And special thanks to Stanningfield for supplying the flooring.

Sue Smith and Sally Daniels Representatives from the WISH appeal gave a short talk, and thanked everyone for their support last year when we raised £750.00 to the WISH appeal and every heart matters.

Unfortunately we had a team drop out Friday so Cockfield provided a rink which makes the £1000.00 reached even more remarkable.

The Cockfield tournament uses a different format to most competitions, a match is decided on the number of ends won and not the number of shots, which leads to an interesting game with slightly different tactics. Each winning team member was presented with a £15.00 garden voucher and the runners up a bottle of wine each. A cheque for £1000.00 will be presented to The WISH appeal on 1st April before the Withersfield Match.
